Philosophy & Objectives

B.Sc. Banking and Finance Programme in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) is powered by the philosophy to provide the required training to develop the mind, impart theoretical and practical knowledge on students to enable them develop self-confidence, innovative skills and be self-reliant in the practice of banking Profession and in the general field of administration. More so the programme seeks to impart basic knowledge and skill, needed for the understanding and analysis of problems and ultimately turn out graduates who are skilled with both theoretical and practical knowledge for banking and finance industry.

 The Banking and Finance programme, leading to the award of B.Sc. (Banking and Finance) degree, covers the following degree stress areas of specialization: 

             -  Banking Institutions, Operations and Markets

              -  Corporate Finance (i.e. Financial Management)

              -  Public Sector Finance (i.e. public sector financial management)

              -  International Trade and Finance

              -  Risk Management and Insurance

              -  Agricultural Finance and Commodity Markets

              -  Capital Markets and Institutions                                                   

              -  Strategic Financial Management and Corporate Strategy, etc.

The specific objectives of B.Sc. Banking and Finance Programme of MOUAU are:

(i)                 To develop the mind and impart theoretical and practical knowledge that will encourage self-reliance in students

(ii)               To build in students the basic tenets of academic and social principles for a successful career in Banking and Finance.

(iii)             To inculcate in students’ knowledge, learning outcome competences, skills and behavioral attributes needed to understand and analyze problems related to Banking and Finance. Financial management and administration in industry, commerce, public service, and other human organizations.

(iv)             To equip students with the skills needed to recognize and define business problems and to take appropriate decisions using modern scientific techniques and tools.

(v)               To produce high level graduates that can formulate business plans for bank registration, design Banking systems to suit changing banking requirements or organizations, contribute to the development of banking practice and be professionally qualified to practice the profession in Nigeria and abroad.

(vi)             To produce leadership and inter-personal relations skills needed for service in organizations.

 

(vii)           To advance research in Banking, Financial Management and general Administration Studies.
