Philosophy of the Department

The B.Sc. Accounting Programme in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) is driven by the philosophy to provide the required training to develop the mind, impart theoretical and practical knowledge on students to enable them develop self confidence, innovative skills and be self reliant in the practice of Accounting Profession and in the general field of Administration.

Objective of the Department

  • To develop the mind and impart theoretical and practical knowledge that will encourage self-reliance in students.

  • To build in students the basic tenets of academic and social principles for a successful career in Accounting.

  • To inculcate in students knowledge, learning outcome competences, skills and behavioural attributes needed to understand and analyze problems related to accounting, financial management, and administration in industry, commerce, public service, and other human organizations.

  • To equip students with the skills needed to recognize and define business problems and to take appropriate decisions using modern scientific techniques and tools.

  • To produce high level graduates that can design accounting systems to suit changing accounting requirements of organizations, contribute to the development of accounting practice and be professionally qualified to practice the profession in Nigeria and abroad.

  • To produce leadership and inter-personal relations skills needed for service in organizations.

  • To produce a flow of graduates capable of contributing to the development of Nigeria and the global community within the framework of programme guidelines of the National Universities Commission, Professional Accountancy Bodies, and the changing needs of the industry.

  • To advance research in Accounting, Financial Management and general Administration Studies.
